The Logoed CD’s conception is largely due to both reality and practicality.
The Logoed CD’s David Cubitt has been in the music business for over 20 years from a recording artist, performer and producer to being the founder and president of Canada’s largest and most successful CD retail warehouse outlet chain called CD PLUS.
CD PLUS was founded in the house basement in 1988 and in just 5 short years had grown to 8 warehouse outlets doing over 12 million dollars a year in sales. Being in the competitive retail business, gaining customer loyalty and marketing new customers is an ongoing process. Realizing that in order to gain both, while being competitive and working on small margins, there is a need for different types of value added products and services.
“Every Christmas we would try different types of ‘gift with purchase’ and bought the usual “staple” products from our Distributor to give away with purchase and sell as a branded product. The most successful gift we gave away was in 1994; a Holiday Christmas CD branded with the CD Plus logo was given FREE with any purchase over $200.00. Because CDs have such a high-perceived value and customers were already paying an average of $18.00 per CD, they were overwhelmed by being given a FREE CD. THE RESPONSE WAS OUTSTANDING!!!” states David Cubitt.
“We ran that program every year, (as a collector item) until we had grown to 10 outlets doing 15 million in sales, then sold the company in 1999 in a deal that could not be resisted”.
After 10 years in the most successful CD Music warehouse business in Canada and meeting everyone from Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, Celine Dion, James Taylor to Lenny Kravitz, Peter Gabriel, George Martin, Mariah Carey and Michael Bolton, just to name a few, David Cubitt realized that a custom CD package has so much perceived value and music is enjoyed by everyone in all demographics and is the most instrumental element in all of today’s marketing, from cars, fast food chains and clothing companies to just about every product marketing campaign.
